Family Fun

For FHE a few weeks ago we washed the car. Luckily the weather was fantastic. Lucas was interested in it for awhile. He wanted to have a glove like daddy, so he used a sock. He is acctually pretty efficient. Then when he got bored, he went searching in the garage. He found the water gun. He convinced Dad to put water in it, and then helped keep us on our toes. We changed clothes once the car was dry, and went for ice cream. The sunset was really beautiful, can you tell from the refelction on the sidewalk?

If you have been watchin the Nation Weather Forcast, you might have noticed that Kansas has been getting a lot of rain. We don't have our Lawn in yet, so we have a lake of mud. We also have had a few sink holes and have to empty them, thus the bucket. Lucas and Daddy work on keeping the mud in our yard. Lucas loves being a huge help to his Daddy. He is so intent on helping, it is hard to keep any of his shoes clean. He really loves the warm and sunny days that he can play with his diggers in the dirt.

My friend Suzy Yates sent me this questionare, thank you for the opportunity to think about Lucas' birth, it was really fun. Motherhood gets better and better... so far. I will let you know how it goes.

How did you know you were pregnant? I started to feel icky, and took a home pregnancy test that gave us the good news. The next day we got a blood test at the doctor's office to make sure.
How old were you? I was 22
Was it planned? Kind of, it was wanted really bad though
What foods did you crave? Onion rings from sonic and baked potatoes with bbq sauce
Any morning sickness? Not too bad
Did you find out the sex? Yes, a little boy, they got it right!

Where did you start labor? I don't know I couldn't tell when it started, it only got bad after we went to the hospital and they broke my water
How long were you in labor? It only really hurt for a little less than four hours
How long did you push? about 30 min, then they told me to stop, the doctor wasn't there yet. Ouch.
Did you have an epidural? Nope

Was there complications with the labor and delivery? Nope
Did you cry when they were born? Nope
Who was in the delivery room? Adam, the doctor, a nurse and me.

Like father like son. Lucas loves being outside. He cries whenever I have to bring him in for a snack, for a diaper change, for dinner... anything. We dig in the dirt in our yard for hours. I am really looking forward to having grass so clean-up is a little bit easier. For now we play on the grass at a big park near our home. If we get in the car, or the bike trailer he asks for the park. Once we get there Lucas goes searching for sticks. We recently rented the book, Not a Stick, from our library. It describes Lucas' play habits very well. He loves merry-go-rounds because he gets to spin in circles. I think his stomach is pretty strong because I have spun him in circles for quite a while, but no messes, YAY! He recently climbed up the slide for the first time unassisted, and was very proud of himself. Ahhhhh childhood.

Easter Egg Hunting

Dying Easter eggs turned out great. The only thing stained were Lucas' hands and we both had a lot of fun. I used straight vinegar and food dye because I forgot the directions say to dilute it. We used crayons to draw on the eggs but once we put them in the vinegar some chemical reaction removed the wax. Lucas' fingers ended up a Shrek-green color and so did most of the eggs. Lucas loves candy and was shocked to wake up Easter morning and find candy waiting for him on the table. He kept saying "oooh, oooh, oooh," like he was getting away with something. Easter egg hunting went well too. Adam had to show him what to look for but after that he was very good at it. He got a kick out of throwing them into his basket. He broke most of the shells atleast a little. Mom had to re-hide the not too badly cracked eggs. He really likes egg salad sandwiches so it didn't take too long to eat them.

Easter Sun Run

Last Saturday I finished my first 10 K (6.2 miles) race since high school. I finished in 50 min 33 seconds, which averages my miles to about 8 minutes, 7 seconds each. I really enjoyed running it. I have a fabulous running partner who keeps me motivated. Afterwards we were so wet and cold we ended up asking a sheriff's deputy if we could sit in the back of their cruiser to warm up. It turns out there is no leg room in the back of a police car, but at least they had a good heater, and that is what we needed most. Her husband came to pick us up not long after, and we were released to his custody. Lucas missed all the fun because he came down with strep throat. Since Lucas is only two we decided Adam had better stay behind as well. Kristen, my running partner told me a good quote yesterday that describes how I feel. Most people start running to get in shape, and stay because the fall in love with it. It sounds crazy, but getting up at 5:30 to go pound the pavement is actually fun. For anyone thinking about starting I suggest finding someone you like to talk with, it makes the miles go by so much faster. Lucas really enjoys it when we take him too. At 34 pounds, I am about to make him start pushing himself. We pass by the Junior high where there are diggers working on the Football field. He also loves seeing dogs out for walks.

Gymnastics

Lucas has been taking a gymnastics class. He gets to go with one of his favorite friends, Raegan. He really loves going and working on his different skills. In the end though, all the kids end up playing in the big foam pit. He has learned how to do a back walk-over, swing on a bar, Walk on the balance beam and do kicks, Jump in circles on a trampoline, and most importantly has learned to wait for his turn. I really enjoy going with him. This week is our last week of the session, and we will miss going.
